Cot beds are now out selling the traditional cot in the nursery market place and offer better value for money as they can be transformed in to a junior bed once your child has grown out of the need for the cot sides making the transition from cot to standard single bed less of a daunting jump.

For anyone who has already bought a cot, or for those who did not have space for the slightly larger dimensions of a cot bed, you can buy stand alone toddler beds once your child has out grown the cot stage.

Standard single bedding does not fit junior beds or converted cot beds as it is too big. You need a duvet quilt of 120cm by 150cm and a junior pillow of 40cm by 60cm which in turn need covers made specifically for that size of insert.

Keep in mind that quilts are not safe for a child of less than 12 months old to use because of the danger of over heating and when you are choosing the duvet quilt remember that a toddler does not need the steep Tog rating that adults do. You can always supplement the quilt with a flat sheet if the weather is particularly cold however in today's world of central heating and double glazing a cot bed quilt is designed to offer sufficient warmth.
